Introduction and Contents

John Thomson was one of the largest industrial enterprises in Wolverhampton and, indeed, was a player on the world scene.  Its products covered a wide range but the main products can be said to be boilers and vehicle parts, especially chassis.  Most of their other products can be seen as leading from those core activities.  The firm lasted longer than many others, having its origins in the early nineteenth century and not closing in Wolverhampton until 2004.
