The annual Sunbeam Rally, organised by the Marston Heritage Trust, took place at Bantock House Museum, on 7th July 2002. Many locally made motorbikes were on display, all restored to a high standard. There were Sunbeams galore and "Ay Jays". There was also a small display of Sunbeam bicycles. The museum and its grounds provided the ideal setting, and the museum’s excellent catering facilities were used to the full. It was a warm sunny day and a friendly gathering in friendly surroundings. The event was ably organised by Ray Jones and Trevor Davies, and George Peck and Derek Beddows were on hand to ensure that everything ran smoothly. Geoff Stevens (A.J.S.) came along and local fountain of knowledge, Jim Boulton, answered many queries. A few vintage cars were there including Brian Watton’s superb 12.8h.p. Sunbeam Dawn from 1935. Even though the event clashed with several others that were happening in the City at the same time, it was well attended. Prizes were given for the best restorations and a cavalcade of motorbikes travelled around the nearby streets. All-in-all it was an enjoyable day and an excellent venue. I’m sure that everyone who came along would agree. Hopefully Bantock House will again be considered for next years rally.
