Darlaston in the early 2000s

By Bev Parker

Many changes took place in the early years of this century that completely changed the town centre and the way people shopped. Some old landmarks disappeared in readiness for housing estates that have since been built and industry continued its decline as some of the old factories closed their doors for the last time.

What follows is a number of photographs that I took in the first decade of the century, recording some of the old street scenes before they disappeared forever.

Part 1.  Pinfold Street, King Street, Church Street, Bell Street, Slater Street.

The Black Horse pub on the left was the oldest public house in the centre of Darlaston, dating from the late 18th century. It was once the headquarters of the town's horse racing fraternity, and is shown here just before demolition.
