Jimmy Jewel and Ben Warriss

Jimmy was born 1906 and Ben, his cousin was born in 1909. They were both from Sheffield and began solo careers. They teamed up in 1934 and became extremely famous and were the highest paid double act in the early 1950s.

They appeared in 7 Royal Variety performances, many pantomimes and did 12 Blackpool Summer Seasons. They had a popular radio series in the late 1940s and early 1950s called 'Up the Pole' which made them huge stars.

During their career they performed in most of the country's variety theatres, but by the mid 1960s most were gone. In 1966 they split up, with Ben continuing to do variety and pantomime, and Jimmy as an actor.

Jimmy appeared with Hylda Baker in the television comedy series 'Nearest and Dearest', which was a great hit. 'Nearest and Dearest' also toured as a stage show.

Ben died in 1993 and Jimmy in 1995. Their unique act will be remembered for many years to come.
