Photos of the Centre
of Wolverhampton in Recent Times

by Bev Parker

Many changes have taken place since the start of the century that have completely altered the look of the City centre. Old landmarks have gone forever and have been replaced, some shops have changed hands and the old bus station has been updated and greatly improved.

What follows is a number of photographs that I took in the first decade of the century, recording some of the old street scenes before they disappeared forever.

Wolverhampton bus station in 2001. It was built in 1986 to replace an earlier one on the same site, built in 1980.  It closed on the 3rd April 2010 in readiness for the building of the present bus station, which opened on Sunday 24th July 2011 and was built at a cost of £22.5 million.
