Ring Road Subway, Chapel Ash

Pedestrian subways, designed to let the carless - the young, the old, the poor, the disabled - cross the road in a manner suitably subservient to the motorist, have never been either popular or successful.  It has to be said that Wolverhampton gave them a better go than many places.  This roundabout has a nice park in its middle and was provided with these mosaic tile murals.  They are less lively and dramatic than the graffiti which, from time to time, decorate the tunnels.  The graffiti are usually more representational and leave little doubt as to their meaning.  I think these mosaics are about the lock industry and Chapel Ash.
