The Waggon and Horses, Cannock Road

The building was greatly damaged as the result of an arson attack, and has since been rebuilt as a food store specialising in Polish food.

This pub seems to have been built in the early 1950s.  It replaced a pub which was at a much lower level.  The ground was built up, presumably to make the new pub more accessible and visible.  I am told by an elderly gentleman in the bar that you got to the old pub down a flight of 29 steps from Cannock Road and that the pub was therefore known as "The Twenty-Nine Steps".

This tile picture above the main entrance is not the greatest piece of tile art you have ever seen but it seems to be the only tile picture left in Wolverhampton.  A crude thing which is still there today.
