Listing: Former Letts Estate Agents. House. 1820s. Comment: A pleasant survivor. The blank window may be a
response to the Window Tax but is more likely to be an architectural
feature intended to balance the appearance of the facade.
Immediately behind this house are the remains of Downs' meat
factory, where Bilston's biggest chain of butchers' shops produced
sausages, pies and the like.  Workers at the steel works and
other heavy industries were great meat eaters - and could afford to
buy it.  This close proximity of houses and factories was quite
usual in the old Bilston.  But now (mid-2004) the factory is
derelict and it is proposed to build houses on the site.
