Listing: Locally listed in 2004. Two storey office block. Facing
in red brick with buff terrcotta dressings. Front offices to former
boilerworks.
Comment: Currently known as Crown House as it is occupied by the
Crown Engineering Company. Originally these were the office of John
Thompson Ltd, who certainly made a lot of boilers but they made a lot of other
things as well, notably vehicle chassis. Their premises extended over both
sides of the road. This building originally had a wing on each side and what
remains is this central block. The wings were demolished sometime around
the 1970s. There are two few industrial buildings left in the city and
this one certainly ought to be preserved.
