Listing: The Hatherton Arms public house, North Road. Comment:
A dramatic and effective composition on a sharp corner, with a group
of three tall Tudor style chimneys on the left hand, Oxley Street
elevation balancing a rounded corner with lines of tall windows on
both floors. The window detail has similarities to the architect
Butler’s more Arts and Crafts Tudor pubs (e.g. the Gunmakers Arms)
but the forms here are unique in his work.
Despite external alterations, including a former off-licence shop
front intruded on to the North Street side this remains a high
quality building.
