Listing: Locally listed in 2004. Two pairs of semi-detached two
storey council built houses. Representative of a distinctive local style
of municipal housing built in the Bilston area in the inter-war period.
This pair retain the original glass block windows to the stair wells.
Comment: Buildings in this style were built on several sites in
Bilston and these - at the end of almost a whole street in this style - may be
the best preserved. They style is certainly distinctive, not to say odd.
But it does seem to reflect an intention by the then Bilston Borough Council to
see to it that its council houses were more than the bare minimum. George
Barnsby has published a study of Wolverhampton's council housing and it would be
worth while trying to do the same thing for Bilston.
