Listing: The New Pear Tree, Cannock Road
Comment: A large pub in a simplified Tudor style, in pinky-red
brick, on a prominent corner.
The five bay main block has a hipped roof, and
a recessed wing at the right hand end has a separate lower wing in
front. It has been badly altered, with a poor recent porch and
unsympathetic re-roofing.
Its finest feature is its splendid Tudor
revival chimneys; tall, massive and particularly well grouped on the
right hand end, towards the street corner, where they make an
unforgettable impact.
The garden appears to survive at the rear. For
its architectural quality it is worth putting on the local list. |
