Listing: The Victoria public house, Deans Road
Comment: A very simple design by the architect Twentyman, a
seven bay block with a hipped roof in a severe Neo-Georgian style.
The upper windows retain their original shutters, and the
symmetrically placed entrances on the ground floor have doorcases
with continuous mouldings, like those at the Oxley Moor, but without
the friezes and lintels. Low stepped chimneys, carefully placed,
make
their impact on the skyline.
It has real townscape importance as the one distinguished
building in an area of plain housing. |
