Listing: Crown Clothing Works building.
Built between 1903 and 1919.
Comment: An interesting works not least
because someone seems to have tried to give it a bit of style and a lot
more quality than is often found in factories of the time. It
seems that the suggested date arises from the fact that the building
does not appear on the 1903 OS map but does appear on the 1919 OS map.
It is very surprising that the building on the opposite
corner, and the one next to it in Penn Street, are not listed.
Both are pleasant buildings and with great historic importance to the
town's industry.
