Listing: Pair of wrought irons gates
incorporating WEC symbol. Decorative sunburst/flame design.
Locally Listed, approved November 2001.
Comment: This is a very striking pair of
gates, not more than 30 or 40 years old at the most and therefore,
apparently, our youngest listed building. They were designed by
Vince McHugh, a member of the club, who had been First Engineer
(Planning) at the MEB. It is not known who made the gates beyond
the recollection that he came from Bridgnorth. The design does not
seem to have anything to do with sunbursts or flames but is based on the
lightning bolt which the Electric Club uses as its symbol.
