Listing: Inter-war offices (cruise
liner inspired style) converted to car showroom at ground floor in 1967
for Thomas Attwood garages. Striking corner tower feature and
Attwood neon sign at roof level. Landmark building on prominent
corner site. Locally Listed, approved November 2001.
Comment: One is not quite sure that the
present ground floor windows, and the signage, really do justice to the
building. The rest is in a style which is not uncommon in the
city, except for the remarkable tower, which seems to be more
Odeon than cruise liner inspired. Whatever. The building
falls within the site to be redeveloped by J. Sainsbury for a superstore
and other uses. This building is supposed to be kept.
