Listing: c.1910. Edwardian Baroque style.
Comment: When all the buildings on this side of Lichfield Street
were cleared under the widening and improvement scheme of the 1880s, at least
one building was erected on this site. It cannot have lasted long before
it was thought worth demolishing it and replacing it with this suitably
impressive bank.
On the retreat of the banks from the high streets the ground floor turned
into a bar and coffee house. The treatment of the exterior by the new users
can only be described as restrained. The interior was yet again
revamped (2001) for a similar use.
The elaborate plastered ceiling, an original part of the building,
has survived all the changes.
