Listing: Cable Street Bridge over the BCN. Comment:
Cable Street Bridge: also known as Monmore Green Bridge. C1770s.
Carries Cable Street over the Birmingham Canal and includes beneath
the Bridge a stop plank groove.
It incorporates both a fireman's hatch (an
opening in the Bridge parapet through which the fireman's hose could
be passed to draw water from the canal) and a stop plank store (a
store for the planks which were used to stop up the canal when it
needed to be drained for maintenance or repair) - the only known
examples of either of these features on any canal bridge in the
City. |
