The Site in 2002

The scene is very different, the factory has gone. Most of the site is occupied by a supermarket, petrol station and car park.
The only reminder of the once great company is this memorial which was erected by Safeway.

It's aptly named 'The Lone Rider' and was unveiled by Geoffrey Stevens on 31st August 1996.

This photograph shows the memorial as it was in August 2000.

The face was badly damaged, and luckily the sculptor managed to save the day by carving a new one.

Hopefully the surrounding bushes will be trimmed to make the memorial more visible. The installation of lighting would also help deter would-be vandals.
