1996 has been the Year of the Cinema in Britain and this booklet has taken most of that year in completion. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a number of people for their assistance during the past year. The first person who must be mentioned is the man who produced the most comprehensive history of the cinema in the area, Ned Williams. It was his book, Cinemas of the Black Country, which brought back a host of memories to me regarding my own formative years which were spent, or so it seems, at the local flicks. This led me to produce this booklet. I must mention, if not by individual name, the numerous people who provided many of the memories which are found in the second half of the booklet. It is obvious that the cinema was as important to them in their youth, as it was to me. Even amongst those people however I must single out Pat, Val, Maureen, Joyce and Geoff for their invaluable assistance and the time they gave me. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Sylvia, Jackie and the Reprographic Department at the Jennie Lee Centre for their time and expertise in the pulling together of the photographs and printing of the booklet.
