High Street, originally called Cock Street until the early 20th century, disappeared when the original ASDA supermarket was built in the1970s.

This photograph shows the northern side of the street looking westwards after many of the old buildings had already gone.

Another view of the northern side of the street, this time looking eastwards towards King Street.

On the left was the Gas shop and next door Fine Footwear Repairs. The next shop called simply "Darlaston" was a discount store and next door was the Bull's Head pub. On the right was Jowetts and finally Darlaston Winestores.

The Salvation Army's church in High Street, just before it was demolished to make way for the original Asda Supermarket in the early 1970's.
A final view along High Street. The derelict area on the left was the site of "The Spinning Wheels" toy and model shop.
New Road ran along the back of the Owen Memorial Gardens, in between High Street and New Street. The row of 1960s shops in the photograph were never used. During construction there was a mix-up with the plans that resulted in the building being built back-to-front.
