Soon after this exhibit was first displayed in the virtual Museum, John Davies contacted us with information about his restoration of a Joseph Evans pump and drawing our attention to an article: "A Plethora of Pumps" by John Hobbs in "Old Glory" No.49, March 1994.  This article gives a well illustrated history of Joseph Evans, based largely on information from James Evans, the great great grandson of Joseph Evans himself.  Accordingly we have added here some information about the earliest history gained from that article. 

We have also heard from Rupert Evans, another descendant, who has kindly provided further information.  Rupert runs a flourishing engineering business which includes pumping in its activities.  Somewhat later we heard from John Mackay and from Mike Langford, both of whom worked for the company and we have added their accounts.
